Winter Steelhead fishing Rogue River
Rachel and I floated the upper Rogue last Thursday in search of one fish. We hoped to tail a bright, wild winter steelhead to tide us over until the summers start showing up in July. We fished beneath a vivid blue sky and the rivers current carried just the right color. The conditions and company were perfect and ultimately, so was the steelhead. She held in beautiful water, took the fly with confidence, fought valiantly and returned home with dignity.
With the boat on the trailer at noon, we celebrated her over a burger and a beer, made a toast to her progeny and to the spring and summer fishing that lies ahead.
